The study measured, with record-breaking precision, the Lense-Thirring effect, the “dragging of inertial reference frames” predicted by general relativity. The results have been published in the journal Nature.
Vahagn Gurzadyan, professor and head of the Center for Cosmology and Astrophysics at the Artem Alikhanian National Science Laboratory, co-authored the paper “LARES-2 satellite measures the frame-dragging effect around Earth.”
The project is being carried out with the participation of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the European Space Agency (ESA), and leading research centers around the world. The LARES-2 satellite was launched into orbit in 2022.
