“Isn’t TRIPP yet another unilateral concession?”: Lena Matevosyan to Mirzoyan

Lena Matevosyan, MP from the Strong Armenia faction, addressed Ararat Mirzoyan, foreign minister of Armenia, during the discussion of the TRIPP project in the National Assembly. She noted that the TRIPP project is not another unilateral concession by Armenia.
“Mr. Mirzoyan, you say you are moving toward ratification of TRIPP because you want to start construction as soon as possible. But in practice this means that, without reaching a comprehensive settlement, Armenia is meeting Azerbaijan’s demand on yet another key issue, while having no advantages on the ground,” she said.
According to Matevosyan, the project has not addressed the return of Armenian prisoners, peace guarantees, or the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from Armenia’s sovereign territory.
“Isn’t this yet another unilateral concession? Isn’t this another loss of leverage in the negotiation process, since you will continue talks on the peace treaty anyway, but this time without any instruments at hand?” Matevosyan asked.
