Russian political scientist Pavel Danilin commented to Alpha News on the statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that there were no advantages in the continued presence of Russian military bases in the country.
According to the expert, for both the United States and the European Union, the presence of a Russian base in Gyumri is unpleasant; if it were not there, they would feel much more comfortable.
“Everything depends not on Pashinyan but still on the Armenian people, because Pashinyan is a corrupt politician who sold out to the United States, Brussels, and France, which, in fact, persuaded him to carry out all the actions that led Armenia to this unpleasant situation in which it found itself. It is a fact. It is clear that for both the United States and the European Union, the presence of a Russian base in Gyumri is unpleasant; if it were not there, they would feel much more comfortable. And therefore, we can expect that Pashinyan will continue his treacherous policy towards the Armenian people and continue to drive out Russian soldiers, Russian military, and Russian peacekeepers. And all this will be accompanied by consistent pressure on Russia. This will continue as long as the Armenian people allow Pashinyan to do all this,” the political scientist noted.
Speaking about Russia’s reaction, the expert said that Russia would probably have to leave.
“If this is a political decision, then it’s hard to say; Russia will probably have to leave. To be honest, I don’t really understand why we need our base there. But I understand perfectly well why Armenia needs it,” Danilin concluded.
