Robert Margaryan: If Pashinyan wants to achieve peace, he must take Russia’s interests into account

If Nikol Pashinyan wants to achieve peace in the region, he must somehow take into account Russia’s interests, political scientist Robert Margaryan said in a conversation with Alpha News.
“Azerbaijan makes a lot of demands against Armenia. It is clear that it will not sign the peace agreement until Armenia meets those demands. It is often said that Azerbaijan set preconditions for Armenia, but Armenia did not respond for a long time. There are some things that are painful and dangerous that even a person like Pashinyan, who gives away everything, does not agree to give away.
Azerbaijan will try as much as possible to reach the maximum,” Margaryan said.
According to Margaryan, a long-term peace deal is not possible without taking into account Russia’s interests.
“The problem is that whether we like it or not, whether we are pro-Western or pro-Russian, a long-term peace agreement is not possible without taking into account the interests of Russia. If any document is signed without Russia’s participation, that document cannot be a guarantee of long-term peace.
Aliyev understands this very well, but, unfortunately, due to the current policy of the Armenian government, Russia is being deliberately inclined towards Azerbaijan. If Nikol Pashinyan wants to finally achieve peace in the region, he is obliged to somehow take Russia’s interests into account, regardless of whether he likes it or not.
The situation in which we have found ourselves, against our will, dictates that,” the political scientist concluded.
