During his visit to Georgia in January, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he had instructed relevant departments to take practical steps to complete the demarcation process of the interstate border between Armenia and Georgia. Factor.am sent a written inquiry to the Prime Minister’s staff to find out whether any steps are being taken and why it was decided to agree to demarcate the border with Georgia at this very stage.
The Prime Minister’s staff forwarded the inquiry to the Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry said that the demarcation process between Armenia and Georgia started in 1995, when the intergovernmental delegations of the two countries reached an agreement to establish relevant commissions.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the work on demarcation and delimitation of the interstate border between Armenia and Georgia needs to be activated.
No other agreements have been made. “The timeframe for the resumption of joint work is being discussed with the Georgian side, and information about the work of the commissions will be presented in due time,” the Foreign Ministry replied, without specifying the date.
