Vladimir Skachko: The purpose of anti-Russian statements is to receive gratitude from the West
Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Vladimir Skachko commented on the news that Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan used the term “invasion” when speaking about the conflict in Ukraine and noted that Yerevan defends the territorial integrity of this country.
According to the expert, Armenia is now trying to get help from the West, so it needs to prove itself as a Russophobe.
“Armenia sees that the worse, the more active, the more aggressive Ukraine acts, begging for money, the more it receives. So Armenia takes an example from Ukraine. This example is bad, but contagious. People who want to get money from the West, the United States, the EU, or someone else begin to act like the most daring anti-Russian players, hoping that they will be noticed and something will be given to them. It is precisely this role that has recently been played not only by Armenia but also by Moldova, the Baltic states, and others.
Armenia is now changing policy, moving away from Russian help and trying to get help from the West, so it needs to prove itself as a Russophobe. And for this, the Armenian ruling elite hopes to get something in return. The purpose of such statements is to get noticed and receive gratitude. There is nothing else here,” Skachko said.
He also noted that it is easy to continue to lose Armenian territories, but at the same time talk about the fight for territorial integrity.
“All this talk about territorial integrity by the current leadership of Armenia is worthless because Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan lost not only Nagorno-Karabakh. He now continues to lose Armenian territories in the process of delimiting the Armenian border. It’s very easy to lose everything like that and at the same time say that he is fighting for territorial integrity,” Skachko concluded.
