Aram Shahnazaryan: Iran’s policy in the South Caucasus will remain the same no matter who the president is

After the death of the Iranian president, the country’s policy in the South Caucasus will not change, Aram Shahnazaryan, editor-in-chief of the Alik daily, told Alpha News.

“Iran will naturally go through a transitional phase. Presidential elections are scheduled for the next month. We have to see how the elections will go, who will be the executive head of the country, and what will be the foreign policy. I believe that Iran’s policy in the South Caucasus will not change; it will remain the same no matter who the president or foreign minister is.

In fact, the new acting foreign minister follows the same line as the former foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The country’s leader announced immediately after the incident that there would be no change in the direction of foreign policy or, in general, in the management of the country. This is a signal for regional and extra-regional forces and neighboring countries,” Aram Shahnazaryan said.

He commented on the important statements made at today’s meeting between Pashinyan and Iran’s supreme leader.

“Today, Pashinyan and his delegation were in Tehran. He had a meeting with the supreme spiritual leader, who noted that friendly relations with Armenia are important. The spiritual leader clearly and directly stated that the expansion of Iran-Armenia relations is important for Iran, and these ties have adversaries; there are forces that do not want these relations to be strengthened and developed,” he said.
