The people of Armenia remember the historical role of Russia and the significance of relations between the two countries, despite the change of politicians in the country. This view was expressed by Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of Russia’s Central Election Commission, commenting on the results of Russian observers’ work at the parliamentary elections in Armenia.
According to Pamfilova, representatives of Russian election commissions visited a total of 180 polling stations and 11 territorial election commissions, where they observed the course of voting and the work of the election commissions. The CEC chairwoman asked her colleagues to compile, based on their observations, an analytical report “for understanding what is happening, for the future.”
According to her, this is necessary in order to respond in a timely manner to processes capable of negatively affecting relations between the two countries.
“I am certain that different politicians come and go, but the historically established relations, even though under Pashinyan history textbooks are being rewritten, overall, the Armenian people’s memory retains what Russia means in the history of Armenia and what our relations mean not only for the past but also for Armenia’s future,” Pamfilova noted.
According to her, studying the ongoing processes is important in order to “not turn a blind eye” to emerging problems and to forestall phenomena that could impede normal partnership relations between Russia and Armenia.
