Dropping Armenian vegetables and produce will be a problem for Armenia, but not for the Russian market, Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development, told Vesti.

“For the Russian market, these are volumes we can easily substitute from other markets and through domestic production,” the minister said.

Rosselkhoznadzor will introduce temporary restrictions on imports of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, leafy greens, and strawberries from Armenia starting May 30th. Repeated violations of phytosanitary standards were cited as the reason.

Since the beginning of the year, 181 cases of quarantine pest contamination have already been detected in imports of Armenian fruit and vegetable products, according to the agency. A Rosselkhoznadzor inspection conducted May 21–27 confirmed systematic violations at greenhouse complexes. The competent Armenian authority had not taken measures to address previously identified violations.
