New educational programs dedicated to the Armenian Genocide are being introduced in Armenian schools across the United States. Nune Simonyan, journalist and television host, said this in an interview with Alpha News.

“There are 22 Armenian schools operating in the United States. Most of them are located in California, but there are also schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York. The topic of the Armenian Genocide occupies an important place in the new educational programs and research initiatives being introduced in these schools. Similar programs are also being implemented in Armenian Studies departments at universities. I would note that this is not a community initiative but a state policy enshrined in legislation,” Simonyan said.

Commenting on the issue of school closures in a number of Armenian communities, she stressed that “one would need to have quite serious mental health problems to understand Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statements.”

“The country’s top official, responding to a question about the closure of schools in border villages, says that it is not schools that are being closed, but the schools’ administrative buildings. One would need to have quite serious mental health problems to understand the meaning of that statement. If a school’s administrative building is being closed, does that mean children are supposed to study in the street?” Simonyan said, expressing bewilderment.
