When the displacement of people from Artsakh began, we were first transported to Stepanakert and then to the Sevan guesthouse in Hrazdan, whose owner, after some time, said that we had to vacate the house as tourists were arriving, recalls Julieta Nalbandyan, a resident of the village of Nrnadzor of the Meghri community, originally from Getashen. She reflects on the difficulties of life in Armenia after being forcibly displaced from Artsakh.
Following their displacement, Julieta and her family settled in the village of Nrnadzor.
“We were offered the option of settling in Meghri. They said it was a good place. My mom and dad urged me to stay wherever they were, but my husband agreed to move, so I had to go too,” Julieta recounts.
According to her, at first, there was no water or proper living conditions, and the windows and doors were broken.
“Other families arrived after us. Only 12 families were from Getashen. I’ve already adjusted to life here. I really enjoy the village and working in the garden. A hardworking person will find ways to work, no matter where they live. The bad thing is that there are no educational opportunities. If there were access to education and jobs, young people would not go, they would stay here,” says Julieta Nalbandyan.
