Israel would likely welcome overthrow of Iran’s current regime — Alexander Tsinker
Alexander Tsinker, head of the International Center for Eurasian Studies (ICES), spoke to Alpha News about Israel’s justification for its military operation against Iran and whether the ongoing situation in the Middle East could lead Azerbaijan to forcibly resolve the issue of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor.” According to the expert, since Iran does not hide its desire to destroy Israel, the Israeli authorities realized that they need to start military actions.
“First, Iran is one of the few states that officially, openly, talks about the destruction of the ‘Zionist entity.’ Second, Iran has created proxy forces in Yemen that are waging a war against Israel, mostly against the civilian population. Third, the latest IAEA summary was recently published, after which there was a vote by the IAEA leadership, where the majority of votes recognized that in another month or two, Iran will have nuclear weapons. And since Iran does not hide its desire to destroy Israel, we realized that we need to start fighting it,” Tsinker said.
According to the political scientist, Israel would likely welcome the overthrow of Iran’s current regime.
Addressing whether Azerbaijan might use the strikes on Iran as an opportunity to attack Armenia, the expert stated that Baku would not take such action at this time.
“I don’t think that now is the time that Azerbaijan will try to take advantage of, because everything is so tense that Azerbaijan could also fall under the same Iranian attack. Therefore, it seems to me that Baku will not go for it today. But if Armenia thinks that Iran will fight for Armenia, it is gravely mistaken—this will not happen,” Tsinker concluded.
