Dmitry Drobnitsky, americanist and political analyst, commented to Alpha News on the conclusion of a peace deal between Iran and the United States.

According to the expert, there are more questions than answers surrounding the US-Iran deal, and it’s too early to judge it given the lack of details available.

“We have not seen the text of the agreement and do not know exactly what’s in it. Adding to that, it remains only a preliminary agreement so far. Starting on the 19th, when it’s supposed to take effect, 60 days of negotiations toward a peace settlement are meant to follow, a period that could also be extended. Because of this, nobody today really knows what the US-Iran agreement actually entails, and even President Trump effectively confirms this, with a stance that boils down to: “I know, but I won’t say.”

Vice President Vance had said the agreement amounted to roughly a page and a half of very general language, while the Iranian side has pointed to fairly specific terms. He recalled that Vance had stated Iran could gain access to a $300 billion reconstruction fund, but that what this fund actually is and how it would be financed remains unknown, and that Trump, for his part, dismisses such reports as fake news” – Drobnitsky said.

In the analyst’s view, it is precisely this strategic ambiguity, which is now so often discussed, that lies at the heart of the deal.
