A mural celebrating the legacy of Arshile Gorky—a prominent artist of Armenian descent and one of the most influential figures in 20th-century American art—has been unveiled in Watertown, Massachusetts.
The author of the mural, placed on a building along the Watertown Cambridge Greenway, was artist Brandon Guy Marshall. The mural was created in honor of the 100th anniversary of Gorky’s birth as a tribute to his lasting contributions to global art.
From 1921 to 1924, Arshile Gorky lived in Watertown, where he studied at the New School of Design. His memory is thoughtfully preserved: a local street bears his name, and commemorative plaques are installed on two of the homes where he once lived. His work is featured in major US museums, including MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution.
