No sustainable peace in Middle East yet – Pyotr Kolchin
Military expert Pyotr Kolchin commented to Alpha News on Donald Trump’s announced truce between Iran and Israel. According to the expert, it is still premature to speak of sustainable peace; current developments merely lay the groundwork for potential dialogue.
“In general, the conflict between Iran and Israel has become a unique phenomenon for modern history. The confrontation is being conducted remotely, through the destruction of strategic infrastructure and military facilities. Nevertheless, this confrontation has caused destabilization of the entire Middle East region and significantly polarized sentiments in the region. And, as we can see now, in general, we cannot talk about a sustainable peace yet—only preliminary outlines for dialogue are being drawn,” Kolchin said.
According to the expert, it was Moscow that contributed a decisive role in creating an opportunity for dialogue between Iran and Israel.
“Judging by recent events and media reports, it is too early to talk about complete peace. However, it is important to emphasize that the beginning of discussions on a possible truce between Tehran and Tel Aviv, as well as the movement in this direction, began just a few hours after the Iranian Foreign Minister’s substantive conversation with the Russian president. While Trump is now positioning himself as the lead peacemaker, it was Russia that from the very beginning spoke from the most constructive position and helped identify common ground for dialogue. Most likely, it was Moscow that played a decisive role in creating the very possibility of dialogue and ending the conflict,” Kolchin concluded.
