Gocha Tsopurashvili, former deputy minister of agriculture of Georgia and doctor of economics, presented his report titled “Logistics and transport communications of the South Caucasus: a unifying factor or an apple of discord?” at a press conference held at the Alpha Media Center on the topic “How to preserve subjectivity in the era of new corridors?”
According to him, the so-called Middle Corridor, located in the region, has become an attractive topic worldwide.
“In the South Caucasus, nothing will work out differently for us unless we, the three republics, think about unifying factors. That is, we need to create some kind of economic platform where we all develop together. In this situation, we are not competitors. We must create a very large territory with a population of approximately 20 million, which will have such institutional laws, such rules and opportunities that will be attractive,” he said.
According to Tsopurashvili, the topic of the Caucasus is of interest to all countries due to its geography. “We must rise even higher than our specific national interests and move toward each other,” he said, adding that while Georgia and Armenia do have close contacts, there are no economic projects between them comparable to those with Azerbaijan.
