Hrach Varzhapetyan, a representative of the Central Committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation in Western Europe, said in an interview with Alpha News that the Armenian community in France remains one of the most important centers of the Diaspora, although in recent years the current Armenian authorities have attempted to create divisions even within one of its largest communities.
“There is no need to pretend that there is complete unanimity in the Diaspora, particularly in the Armenian community of France. There have been attempts to drive a wedge between people. These attempts were made by the Armenian authorities through various representatives, and unfortunately, they have been partly successful,” Varzhapetyan noted.
At the same time, he stressed that the position of the majority of the community regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia is quite clear.
“The majority of French Armenians support a change of власти and regime,” he emphasized.
One of the main reasons for this position, he said, is policy regarding the issue of the Armenian Genocide.
“For the Diaspora, recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a red line, and when doubts arise on this issue, it provokes a serious reaction,” Varzhapetyan noted.
He added that the issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide, including its historical and territorial aspects, is extremely important for the Diaspora.
