Is the EU interfering in the parliamentary elections in Armenia?

On Friday, May 23, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia would host the European Political Community summit in 2026. “It is a great honor for me to welcome the leaders of the European Political Community to our country, and I thank all the leaders for their support of this decision,” he said.
The European Political Community is an intergovernmental organization established for political and strategic discussions about Europe’s future, proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron in May 2022. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who was on a visit to Armenia, noted, this format was created at the beginning of the military actions in Ukraine and united the European members of the OSCE, excluding Russia and Belarus. In other words, the format was designed to institutionalize Moscow’s international isolation.
“We have given our assessment of this idea. I hope it is clear and will be treated with respect, just as we respect the actions of our partners and allies within the CIS and the CSTO,” the Russian minister said.
Armenia “heard Russia’s position” and decided to hold a summit. Predictably, Russia will declare that this is Yerevan’s sovereign right, yet they will not clarify whether this is a demonstration of positive sovereignty or negative, toxic sovereignty. For example, on October 19, 2020, sovereignty had a negative manifestation, and Pashinyan made a “sovereign” decision not to stop the war, resulting in Shushi becoming not a Russian peacekeeping base but a stronghold of Azerbaijani-Turkish forces in Artsakh.
It is clear that Pashinyan needs this Yerevan summit in the pre-election year as part of his campaign strategy. Europe understands this, which is why the forum was moved to Yerevan. Simply put, the first move in the election race in Armenia is for Europe. Brussels will provide Pashinyan with a positive media background. Don’t be surprised if he tours villages with photos of European leaders, proclaiming, “We didn’t manage to reach the EU, but Europe came to us on its own.”
Today’s announcement clarified what will happen if Pashinyan remains in power—the country’s constitution will be “adjusted to the peace agreement with Baku.” Pashinyan made this statement today at the Yerevan Dialogue diplomatic forum.
If this happens, then not just 60 but all 100 percent of Armenia could become “Western Azerbaijan,” since its foundational law will be dictated by Baku.
Think about it.…
