Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist and expert on Middle Eastern conflicts Kirill Semyonov commented on the news that the Foreign Ministries of Iran and Russia opposed the intervention of non-regional players in the affairs of the South Caucasus.
According to the expert, Russia and Iran are not interested in any non-regional forces settling in the territory of the South Caucasus.
“Security is of fundamental importance for Iran. Previously, the main threat to Iran came from Azerbaijan and its cooperation with Israel, but now Iran has certain concerns about Armenia, taking into account the policy pursued by Nikol Pashinyan and his close cooperation with US intelligence services. Representatives of the CIA and other intelligence agencies hostile to Iran visited Armenia. This is a signal for Iran,” Semyonov said.
“Russia is not interested in any non-regional forces settling in the territory of Transcaucasia, such as NATO members, either,” Semyonov concluded.
