US Embassy welcomes formation of working group on restoring the Kars–Gyumri railway

The US Embassy in Armenia has issued a statement calling the development historic progress toward a peaceful and prosperous South Caucasus.

“Today in Kars, Armenian and Turkish officials met to establish a joint working group on restoring the Kars–Gyumri railway. Restoring this vital link between Armenia and Turkey is an important step toward opening regional communications and ensuring regional stability. The groundwork for these pivotal developments was laid at the Washington summit on August 8, hosted by President Trump. The US Embassy in Armenia welcomes the concrete steps taken to resume economic and people-to-people ties between Armenia and Turkey, which have been closed for decades,” the statement reads.

It was previously reported that Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a meeting of the Armenia-Turkey joint working group on the restoration and launch of the Gyumri–Kars railway had taken place in Kars.
