Ophthalmology Professor Alexander Malayan passes away

Alexander Malayan, Professor of Ophthalmology and founder of the Malayan Ophthalmological Center, passed away at the age of 76, Rector of Yerevan State Medical University Armen Muradyan said.
 
“Prof. Alexander Malayan and his qualified team of specialists are associated with the most serious achievements in ophthalmology in our country. For more than four decades, the experienced ophthalmologist managed to combine scientific, pedagogical, and clinical activities, saving and returning sight to hundreds of people and solving vision problems. His word was valuable and important for young colleagues, who today continue to successfully develop ophthalmology in our country. The memorial service for Malayan will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on December 24 in the Surb Hovhannes Mkrtich Church,” he noted.
 
Alexander Malayan was born in 1948 in Tbilisi, Georgia. Since 1984 he was the chief ophthalmologist of the Armenian health ministry, and since 1992 he headed the ophthalmology department at the Yerevan State Medical University. Since 1999 he was the director of the Malayan Ophthalmological Center. He authored 135 scientific articles, 5 inventions, 35 scientific books, methodical recommendations, and 1 monograph; co-authored the book “Neuro-ophthalmology,” a number of educational manuals, as well as a textbook on ophthalmology in Armenian.
