Delegations led by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan met last week in the border regions of both countries—specifically in the southern areas of Armenia’s Syunik Province and Azerbaijan’s Zangelan Region, the press office of Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan confirmed in response to a written inquiry from the RFE/RL’s Armenian service.

The delegations included representatives from the Commissions on Border Delimitation and Security of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as officials from the Ministries of Defense, National Security Services, Foreign Affairs, and Territorial Administration.

The Deputy Prime Minister’s office did not provide a specific answer regarding the date, location, or agenda of the next meeting, stating only that the matter is still under discussion.

The RFE/RL’s Armenian service also inquired whether the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border might continue from Syunik instead of Tavush, as was announced earlier this year—especially in light of the agreement reached in Washington concerning the Syunik road. The Deputy Prime Minister’s office again refrained from giving a direct answer, reiterating that the issue remains under discussion.
