Speaking with Alpha News, Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, commented on Israel’s strikes on Qatar, the drone incident in Poland, the Washington agreements between Yerevan and Baku, the crisis in relations between Baku and Moscow, and Russia’s role in the South Caucasus.

“Everyone understands the message this strike sends. In essence, if the United States does not provide a clear position on this incident now, it will mean that not a single US ally in the region is an ally. In any given situation, Israel could strike another ally without consulting the American side,” Denisov said.

According to the expert, Russia still has extremely important interests in the South Caucasus region.

“Russia is an integral part of the region and is not going to leave it. It is unlikely that Moscow will propose a new alternative approach at this stage, as such a move could disrupt the entire negotiation process. The key problem of the settlement is the lack of political will from the involved parties. If that existed, the agreement would have been signed long ago. Agreements are made, and within hours, positions shift. Azerbaijan constantly receives concessions from Armenia. In exchange for promises to sign peace, Aliyev puts forward new conditions, including issues of changing the Constitution. For Aliyev, this is fundamental, for Pashinyan, this is painful, because he needs to maintain himself in Armenian politics and at the same time try to resolve the conflict. But he cannot combine these tasks,” Denisov noted.
