As part of “The People Speak” project, Alpha News conducted surveys in Yerevan and in Armenian-populated communities in the United States and Russia to gather public opinion on today’s most pressing issues.
Survey participants expressed strong disapproval of the government’s campaign against the Church.
“There was only one institution left that didn’t answer to them—now they want to destroy it too. They want to put their own person in charge,” said one respondent in the Alpha News survey.
They noted that the Armenian people have always stood by the Church.
Many also defended businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan: “This once again demonstrates the government’s incompetence.”
“Samvel Karapetyan has done so much for his homeland. They’ve been in power for seven years now—and what have they done?” one respondent noted.
Participants in an Alpha News survey stated that they see Samvel Karapetyan as the country’s leader and expressed hope that his release would lead to major changes in Armenia.
