It is important to be prepared for potential lawlessness, as was the case in Moldova, said Alpha News editor-in-chief Tigran Kocharyan.
“The Armenian opposition must learn certain lessons from the recent elections in Moldova. It is important to be prepared for potential lawlessness, as was the case in Moldova. Media outlets may be shut down, and all possible information sources not controlled by the Armenian authorities could be cut off. Arrests are also possible. For example, in Moldova, the head of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit, Yevgenia Gutsul, was detained,” Tigran Kocharyan said, adding that Europeans “turn a blind eye” because Maia Sandu is pro-European.
According to Kocharyan, the Armenian opposition must understand how to approach elections.
“Before the elections, the opposition should not attempt to unite under a single alliance. It’s also crucial to note that parties need to secure more than 4% of the vote to enter parliament, while alliances require over 6%. Those who know they won’t gather enough votes should set aside their ambitions and join larger alliances,” Tigran Kocharyan noted.
Moldova’s pro-EU “Party of Action and Solidarity” (PAS), led by President Maia Sandu, won the parliamentary elections held the previous day. According to Moldovan media, preliminary results show the ruling party secured a majority of seats in the new parliament. The pro-Russian opposition was defeated once again.
