The prosecutor in the case against Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan has filed a motion requesting a sentence of 2 years and 6 months in prison.

During the court hearing, the Archbishop declared that he does not fear the verdict and is confident in his future rehabilitation.

“I am not afraid of your court. I am certain that sooner or later I will be acquitted—whether it’s in ten years or half a century after my death. Truth will prevail, and you will remain guilty. Not only you, but your descendants will bear this burden. You will be ashamed in front of your children,” he said.

The Archbishop also called his arrest a disgrace for the authorities:

“It’s hard for me to understand what compels you to take part in this. I sincerely pity you, as I do anyone who commits injustice. Stop before it is too late. If you don’t, you will bear full responsibility.”
