No proposal to reduce electricity tariff received – Regulatory Commission

The Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) has denied Narek Karapetyan’s claim regarding a possible 3-dram reduction in the electricity tariff. The Commission clarified that no such proposal has been submitted and that the reported additional profit of 6 billion drams is unrelated to the efficiency of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA).
“Neither the additional profit of 3.6 billion drams nor the current profit of 6 billion drams mentioned by Narek Karapetyan have any connection to ENA’s operational efficiency. These figures are solely the result of discrepancies between projected and actual volumes of electricity production and consumption, which are not influenced by the electric networks. Such differences occur annually and are taken into account when calculating tariffs for the following year. A change in the electricity tariff for consumers cannot be based solely on the 6 billion dram profit mentioned by Narek Karapetyan, as many other positive and negative factors must be considered. As in previous years, the PSRC began the tariff review process for the entire system on September 15, and by the end of the year, it will be clear whether any changes will be made to consumer tariffs.
If the electric networks genuinely wished to reduce the electricity tariff for consumers, they could do so at any time using their own profits, without applying to the PSRC,” the statement reads.
