‘Armenia needs the kind of government it had before 2018’ – The People Speak

As part of The People Speak project, Alpha News conducted a survey among Armenians living in Moscow to learn their views on current Armenian-Turkish relations. The overwhelming majority of respondents noted that Armenia should not make unilateral concessions and that relations between the two states must be fundamentally different.

“What can I say? If the Turkish anthem is played in Armenia and such things happen… Our ancestors must be turning in their graves. What else can be said?” one respondent said indignantly.

According to another respondent, Turkey must first be compelled to recognize the Armenian Genocide. “But to establish relations with a state that killed our boys… and to do it just like that, making unilateral concessions—I am strongly opposed to this,” he said, adding that Armenia needs the kind of government it had before 2018.

“With neighbors one can communicate, but not the way Pashinyan does. He gives everything away. They removed Ararat from the stamps, and now they want to change the Constitution. They will surrender everything the Turkish and Azerbaijani authorities demand. Good relations should be built with all states, but it must be mutual,” said another member of the Armenian community in Moscow.
