No country has yet built modular reactor to see how it actually works – Ghazinyan

David Ghazinyan, former acting director of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) and member of the “Strong Armenia” party council, addressed the plans to build an American modular nuclear power plant in Armenia during a press conference.
According to him, in 2023 construction of a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) in the United States was halted after it became clear that the actual plant would cost far more than the initial project estimate.
“No one is saying this is a bad thing. We are simply pointing out that no country has a completed SMR that you can visit and see in operation. To my knowledge, not a single SMR worldwide is currently connected to the grid. There is a Russian one, but it is not grid-connected—it operates autonomously. This is a very new field of science that still needs refinement before we take on such a responsibility,” he said.
