The question of the Armenian Genocide continues to be a vital part of the life and identity not only of Diaspora members, but also of a significant portion of citizens of the Republic of Armenia. Mher Gharagashyan, an educator and public figure, said this in a conversation with Alpha News.

According to him, many families living in Armenia today are descendants of Armenian Genocide survivors in the third to fifth generation. In these circumstances, downplaying the issue or treating it as a secondary matter is “an absolutely unacceptable position.”

“The masks are off, and it is now clear where these conversations are coming from and what goals they serve,” the educator noted.

Gharagashyan also drew attention to patterns in regional political responses, observing that official statements from different countries often carry, in his view, identical content and narrative. He believes this points to a shared approach or coordinated policy.

“First and foremost, it must be acknowledged by those who carried it out, or by their successors,” he said.

The public figure also recalled that 2015, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, saw certain positive developments, including a limited number of condolence statements within Turkey itself. However, he said, that process subsequently reversed and regression was recorded.

According to Gharagashyan, the Armenian Genocide remains one of the most important issues not only in terms of historical memory, but also in light of the nation’s security and future.
