By a patriarchal decree of Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, Bishop Makar Hakobyan has been relieved of his post as locum tenens of the Vayots Dzor Diocese of the AAC, which he had held concurrently since October 1, 2019. This was reported by the press office of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

He was succeeded in this post by Archimandrite Movses Sargsyan, the former chief chaplain of the Armenian Armed Forces.

It should be noted that Makar Hakobyan is the primate of the Syunik Diocese and was appointed locum tenens of the Vayots Dzor Diocese at the same time as Archbishop Abraham Mkrtchyan in March of this year. The latter was among the clergymen who joined the program of Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia (RA), for the so-called “reform” of the Church.
