Ararat Mirzoyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia, answered a question at a press conference about a recently published report by the Eurasian Economic Union on Armenia, noting that he expects the EAEU partners to act in good faith.
He added that the document is quite extensive, stressing that he disagrees with the grounds presented for the possible suspension of Armenia’s participation in the EAEU. According to Mirzoyan, although his colleagues say that the EAEU’s documents do not provide for expelling a member or freezing its membership, this is nevertheless possible under the Vienna Convention.
“It is possible, but from a very specific angle. For that, the partner others are dissatisfied with must have violated agreements or obligations within the organization, so that it can be told: you have violated them, thank you, goodbye. As you can see, Armenia has not violated anything and does not intend to,” Mirzoyan said.
“As for the political side, I will only say that we are fulfilling our obligations in good faith and hope that our colleagues, both within the organization and bilaterally, will fulfill their obligations in the same good faith, although, unfortunately, in recent months we have seen the opposite,” he said, adding that Armenia’s decisions and position will be based on statehood, its own interests, sovereignty and independence, as well as the right to decide for itself.
Mirzoyan assured that Armenia seeks dialogue, but its decisions are grounded in statehood.
