Alexey Leonkov, a military analyst, spoke to Alpha News about the recent US congressional elections, how they will affect relations with Russia and Europe, and how likely a US nuclear strike on Iran is.

“What should we expect with regard to Russia? I think nothing will change for the better. The hopes of Europe and Ukraine that the Democrats will change Trump’s policy, that life will get easier for them and they will live happily ever after, are also in vain. It’s an illusion that doesn’t actually work. Ask the Europeans: who blew up the Nord Streams? Under whom did that happen? The pandemic, under whom the economic crisis happened, that same diesel crisis, the situation in the Persian Gulf. All these things took shape under the Democrats and did not lead to a happy ending. Trump tried to fix this situation, but he too was drawn into a series of military conflicts, among which the Persian Gulf became a trap for him that he never managed to get out of. Not to mention the conflict in Ukraine. So I would not expect any sharp changes in the policies of the United States of America,” the expert believes.

According to the source of Alpha News, the US could carry out a nuclear strike on Iran. The probability of this, although minimal, remains constant.

“As for the situation in the Middle East, the forces being assembled there are indeed intended to deliver some kind of powerful strike, because quite a large number of aerial refuelling tankers have been gathered there. As for the question of a nuclear strike, some say the probability is minimal and so on. I would say it is minimal but constant. The thing is, for the United States of America, limited nuclear war is a doctrinal decision that can be put into effect by the commander of US Strategic Command in this region. He does not necessarily need to ask the president’s opinion and so on. He will be tasked with delivering a very powerful strike, and he may choose a thermonuclear weapon, some kind of tactical munition, as the most powerful means of delivering it. Therefore, the probability of a nuclear strike on Iran exists on a constant basis, and the shift to a high probability is a purely technical decision that could be carried out within a few hours,” Leonkov concluded.
