By giving the people of Artsakh the status of temporary protection, Pashinyan pursues other goals, Harut Sassounian, the publisher and editor of The California Courier, said in an interview with Alpha News.

“Pashinyan made an unusual and surprising statement about those forcibly displaced from Artsakh. First, he said that we will give the people of Artsakh a temporary protected status and stressed that this is how we can provide help to our friends from Artsakh both locally and internationally. Secondly, the thing that was very unusual was that he mentioned that Artsakh citizens who came to Armenia can get Armenian citizenship if they apply. This is a surprising statement because the people of Artsakh are already citizens of Armenia. How can you tell them to get citizenship for the second time? I believe that this statement has a different purpose. The people of Artsakh are not satisfied with the government of Armenia, and Pashinyan in particular, and he is afraid that in the event of elections, the people of Artsakh will not vote for him and his party. In that case, he can say that you are not a citizen and you do not have the right to vote. This is Pashinyan’s whole goal,” Sassounian said.

According to Sassounian, Pashinyan once again proves that he is unable to manage the country and make important decisions.

“Pashinyan, as the prime minister, was obliged to provide opportunities for forcibly displaced Artsakh citizens, including accommodation, jobs and food. But these people came, and we saw that nothing was done. Some of them live in cars, others are in gymnasiums, and so on. Pashinyan once again showed that he is not able to manage the country and make important decisions,” Sassounian concluded.
