The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Armenia considers what happened on January 27 near the monument to the children of besieged Leningrad in Yerevan a heinous action aimed at desecrating the memory of the victims and trampling the feats of the peoples of Belarus, Russia, and Armenia during the Eastern Front of World War II.

“Our country hosts annual events dedicated to the liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade and honoring the blockade survivors, calling January 27, 1944, ‘our Leningrad Victory Day.’ We react painfully to any steps aimed at inciting interethnic hatred and rewriting the history of the war events that claimed the lives of every third Belarusian. The Embassy strongly condemns the disgraceful act of vandalism and the attempts to drive a wedge between the brotherly peoples.

We are convinced that the heroic past that we share should serve as a unifying factor and moral guide for present and future generations. We expect the Armenian state agencies to respond properly and hold the perpetrators accountable,” the Embassy said in a statement.
