Armenia is becoming a hostage to an anti-Russian process: Andrey Klimov

Andrey Klimov, deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, commented to Alpha News on the parliamentary elections held in Armenia.
“There are bodies there that must now conduct some kind of recount. But even before these elections, watching what was happening in Armenia and speaking with some Armenian citizens, I had the opportunity to do so on various platforms, I was convinced that the current authorities had no intention of ensuring any genuine popular sovereignty there. And what I saw afterward only confirmed my suspicion. These elections will be recognized only by those who are trying to use the Armenian state for various acts of mischief against Russia. I do not know whether they are consciously carrying out the tasks of the collective West or acting unconsciously, not understanding what they are being drawn into, but the sense that Armenia is becoming a hostage to this anti-Russian process is, in my view, absolutely obvious, whatever anyone may tell anyone else,” Klimov said.
According to the senator, Russia’s position on the elections in Armenia has been stated with utmost clarity.
“Russia’s position has been stated very clearly, no guesswork is needed here. Since three political parties are demanding a recount, there is no consensus, and many questions arise as to who won what. So the question of congratulations is premature,” Klimov stressed.
As the senator noted, congratulating someone on an election victory is only appropriate when there is a clear result.
“Almost immediately after the polls closed, Mr. Pashinyan suddenly called Paris for some reason whether to report in, or in hopes of some additional signs of legitimacy for what had happened, I do not know. That is to say, the man took part in an election, parliament has not yet been formed, he himself has not been reappointed, and yet he is already calling Paris and discussing something there with Macron, as I understand it. That says a great deal. So congratulations are in order only when there is a clear result. And right now there is no clear result,” Klimov concluded.
