Joseph Arzumanov, a French artist and jeweler of Armenian descent, is among the participants of the landmark exhibition The Only True Protest Is Beauty, running in Venice from April 25 to October 4.
The exhibition marks the debut presentation of the Fondazione Dries Van Noten, established by Belgian designer Dries Van Noten and conceived as an interdisciplinary platform supporting craft, artistic thinking, and technology.
Joseph Arzumanov is a 24-year-old artist who masterfully combines jewelry-making, goldwork embroidery, and stone carving with 3D modeling and AI technologies. Born into a French-Armenian family, he also has Russian, German, and Jewish roots, and is the grandson of Valery Grantovich Arzumanov, a prominent Soviet composer. One of Joseph’s best-known works is L’Échiquier des Songes — a chess set crafted from precious metals and Armenian volcanic stone, powered by artificial intelligence. The artist has shared that the inspiration behind this piece was the remarkable love story of his grandparents.
