The day before, human rights organizations, activists and concerned citizens organized a protest at the Brandenburg Gate in Germany, demanding the immediate release of Armenian hostages held in Azerbaijan.

The protesters called for urgent measures to be taken against Azerbaijan’s ongoing human rights violations.

Protests are set to be staged across Europe. The organizers also called on citizens of European countries to raise awareness and pressure their governments to fight these severe human rights violations.

Alpha News spoke with Samvel Lulukyan, a board member of the Central Council of Armenians in Germany, on this topic.

“In fact, the large demonstration was organized by the Central Council of Armenians of Germany along with the coalition organizations. It was not only German Armenians who participated but also German human rights activists. Together, we aimed to voice what is happening in Azerbaijan so that Armenians in Germany would be informed. At the Brandenburg Gate, where the demonstration took place, the US Embassy, the French Embassy, as well as the EU Commission office are located,” he said.

According to him, a letter was sent to the EU Commission office, and a response will be provided soon.

“We mentioned that we need to put pressure on Azerbaijan. The German government, led by Olaf Scholz, also shares responsibility for this situation. Immediately after the demonstration, we handed a letter to the official EU Commission office. They promised that they would work in that direction and would inform us further about the results,” Lulukyan added.
