Robert Margaryan: The Armenian authorities are pursuing the wrong policy, putting the existence of an entire nation at risk

The visit of the First Deputy Secretary of State to Armenia once again showed that the US supports and sponsors Nikol Pashinyan, political scientist Robert Margaryan told Alpha News.

“These days, a US-Armenian Local Democracy Forum is being held in Yerevan, and it was planned in advance. The fact that the First Deputy Secretary of State came to participate in that forum at the highest level, I believe, was connected with the events taking place in Armenia these days.

Maybe there were changes in the format, and that opportunity was used to make a high-level visit to Armenia for the second time. The purpose of all this is very clear, especially amid the events taking place in recent weeks. In this way, they expressed their support for Nikol Pashinyan’s government and showed that the US supports and sponsors the current authorities.

There is nothing wrong here. If the policies are clear, serve the interests of Armenia, and help increase our security, no one will be against those relations. However, the problem is that we are not gaining anything but harming ourselves because the Armenian authorities do not have the courage to give an appropriate response to the hands extended by either the West or Russia. Nikol Pashinyan continues to have it both ways, thereby endangering the Armenian people,” Margaryan said.

The political scientist noted that the current authorities of Armenia are pursuing the wrong policy, putting the existence of an entire nation at risk.

“Since 2020, there have been talks that it would be very good for Armenia to conduct joint military exercises with Iran because, in the end, Iran is able to guarantee the security of Syunik, but we do not see any activity in that field. It is natural that the Armenian authorities are concerned about how Turkey, Azerbaijan, or the West will react to this, but we see that Azerbaijan is participating in military exercises with Iran.
