The silver medalist of the 2020 Olympics in singles, the former 8th racket of the world, Russian tennis player of Armenian origin Karen Khachanov shared his impressions after an unsuccessful performance at the US Open-2023. He was defeated in the first round by American Michael Mmoh 2-6, 4-6, 2-6.
“Thank you US Open and all the amazing fans for making this one of my favorite tournaments. This year was a bit different feeling… After being away for 3 months It was great to be back competing on the big stage and feeling the energy of the crowd again. Unfortunately I could not prepare in a better way due to not having enough time before US Open. But I wanted to play so much. I know I am not even close to my best physical shape and game right now which I had prior injury and it will take time to get back there.
Now I will check one more time with my medical team to be sure I am feeling 100% healthy after this tournament. And after that to continue preparation for the Asian swing and work hard to be back to my very best. Now more than ever I need your support! See you soon, New York!” he wrote on his Instagram.
Karen Khachanov is a five-time winner of ATP Tour.
Last year, he was able to reach the semi-finals of the US Open, where he lost to the Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud.
