The people of Artsakh continue their heroic struggle under the difficult conditions of the ongoing blockade, Artsakhtert reports.
Vardan Gasparyan from the village of Chartar has been helping his parents with farming since his childhood.
Every year, he arranges a greenhouse with an area of 320 sq. m. on the backyard, built by his father in 2012, and continues to provide compatriots with local products. Having gained experience over the years, he decided to expand the greenhouse farming.
In 2020, he built another greenhouse with the help of state support programs. Gasparyan grows essential vegetables: tomatoes, eggplants, pepper. He does the main work himself, but if necessary, his friends gladly support him. In winter, he plants only greenery, because the greenhouse is not heated.
According to Vardan, the greenhouse farming is profitable, however he does not rely only on the income received from it, but combines it with his main job. The problems caused by the blockade are endless. There is a problem with water and fuel, the second greenhouse is 5 km away from the house, it is hard to get on foot every day.
The demand for cultivated vegetables is high, they are consumed only in the territory of Chartar. According to Vardan, if there was no problem with fuel, he would have sold the crop to the Stepanakert market at the same price.
Hard work is an important condition for abundant harvest.
“The more you work, the more you get. Plants love constant care and attention. I already have some experience, but as they say, the more you work, the more you learn,” Vardan says.
“I will work as long as I can. If we aim to build the country, we must put all our efforts into it. No blockade, no uncertainty should stop us from the chosen path. There are obstacles in every field, you just have to believe and move forward.”
