Chief of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov called the situation in the South Caucasus complicated during the briefing for foreign military attaches, Interfax reports.
“The situation in the South Caucasus remains complicated. Destructive influence on its development is exerted by the aspirations of non-regional players, primarily the United States and the European Union, to strengthen their positions in the region, to hold Georgia, and to drag Armenia into the zone of their influence,” he said.
“The West seeks to destabilize the situation by financing and directing protests in Georgia. These attempts show an interest in dragging the country into active anti-Russian actions according to the Ukrainian scenario,” Gerasimov noted.
He said Russia is taking productive measures in the country.
“Largely due to the effort of our state, the positive progress between Baku and Yerevan towards normalization of bilateral relations is evident. For example, demarcation of one of the most difficult sections of the interstate border line between the Gazakh region of Azerbaijan and the Tavush region of Armenia has now been completed,” he added.
