Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Movses Ghazaryan commented on the statement by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas regarding support for Armenia in the upcoming 2026 elections and analyzed the situation surrounding the Armenian Church.

“Kaja Kallas’s words sound like a kind of death sentence for Armenia, for the Armenian people. The comparison with Moldova is, to put it mildly, entirely different. It is good that they’re not comparing it to some wonderful African state, with all due respect to Africa, but that’s, to put it mildly, inappropriate. That is, in my opinion, reading between the lines, this is a demonstrative attitude toward Armenia as a dependent country, and toward the Armenian people as non-sovereign, who, you see, are unable to determine their own future, their own destiny, their own political choices. The implication is that Armenia needs ‘help,'” Ghazaryan said.

According to the expert, the events surrounding the Armenian Apostolic Church are unacceptable and are being initiated by external interests.

“This is truly blasphemous. Statements and actions against the head of the Holy Armenian Church, especially considering that Christianity is, after all, like skin, so to speak, for the Armenian people. Depriving Armenians of the foundations and respect for faith as a social institution that has preserved the national identity of the Armenian people for many centuries is something blasphemous. Of course, it is shameful. I would never in my life stand among those people. I would rather die than be among them. I wonder how these people who participated in these vile actions aren’t ashamed. Aren’t they ashamed to even appear on the street? This is such a disgrace. You know, probably during the Genocide, something similar was carried out, with great violence. That is, the Holy Church, which for centuries preserved the soul of the Armenian people, is now in such a situation. And it’s completely obvious to me that this is like an order from outside. I have no illusions about the ruling group’s beliefs and faith, but various indicators suggest this is an external move, not just from immediate neighbors but most likely from various groups. After all, we know that various sectarian structures operate in close collaboration with Western intelligence agencies, meaning they gather information, recruit people, and so on,” he emphasized.
