On June 2, elections for city council members will be held in Glendale, California. Twelve candidates will be running, nine of whom are Armenian.

Alpha News spoke on this topic with Glendale mayor Artashes Kasakhyan.

“Glendale has a population of around 197,000, of whom 100,000 are eligible to vote. But only around 60,000 residents participate in elections. Among them, the number of Armenian voters is very small,” the mayor noted.

According to Kasakhyan, it is good that the community tries to develop Armenian culture, but living in Glendale, they must also fulfill their civic duty, for example, by participating in elections.

“I believe that being a good Armenian means being a good American, and being a good American means being a good Armenian. I always compare the Artsakh independence movement with the American independence movement. In both cases the struggle was fought to protect human rights,” he emphasized.
