Serzh Srapionyan: Only an Armenophobe can turn ‘History of the Armenian Nation’ into ‘History of Armenia’

 
The seemingly innocent idea of replacing the concept of the history of the Armenian nation with the concept of the history of Armenia contains a very dangerous reality in its inner layers, literary scholar Serzh Srapionyan told Alpha News.

“The history of Armenia is simply the history of a region, a territory. Today, there can be a history of Assyria, but there cannot be a history of the Assyrian people. 

It is no coincidence that at the initial stage of our historiography, almost all historians called their works ‘Armenian history’ or ‘History of the Armenian nation’. History is formed by people who leave there their stories, aspirations, approaches, and, most importantly, their identity. This one change poses a great threat to our awareness of our identity, erasing our awareness of nationality. It is not at all accidental. 

All this is being done for a specific purpose; they are trying in an easier way to turn our people into a jelly-like mass that will not know about its origin and will not understand what role it plays in world history. Even in the Soviet years, in schools, the history of the peoples was reduced to a minimum, but in our textbooks it was still written about the history of the Armenian people, because these people, with their behavior, activities, life, and talent, created the history of this region,” Srapionyan noted.
 
The literary scholar is confident that only the one who is a Turk deep inside, the greatest enemy and Armenophobe, can turn the history of the whole region into the history of the territory.
 
“Now Armenia is faced with challenges. There are more important issues to be solved than changing the history of the Armenian nation to the history of Armenia. If there are still people in Armenia who more or less consider themselves Armenians and have a national identity, they should raise a strong wave of protest against this extremely dangerous, hostile plan and, in every possible way, stop these changes. There cannot be a ‘History of Literature of Armenia’, but there must be literature of Armenian national origin. The idea of ‘History of the Armenian Nation’ includes both the history of the region and the history of the people. The authors of this program want to deprive the Armenian people of their history. We will soon face these consequences if we do not fight this change,” Srapionyan concluded.
