After Trump’s statements, the US became an enemy for Danes – Byurakn Ishkhanyan

In January, President Donald Trump said that Greenland should become part of the United States, stressing its strategic importance for national security and the protection of the “free world,” including against China and Russia. Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede, in turn, said the island is not for sale and will never be sold.
Trump has not yet abandoned his claims to Greenland and continues to threaten Denmark with a trade war. Alpha News spoke to Denmark-based writer Byurakn Ishkhanyan about this topic.
“The Danes are very concerned, but it is not the potential loss of the island that worries them—it is Trump’s uncompromising rhetoric. The US is Denmark’s ally and there has always been a very positive attitude towards the US. However, after Trump’s statement, this changed, and the US became an enemy,” she said.
According to her, Denmark could face sanctions if it opposes Trump’s decisions.
“People have started to boycott American products. But there are much greater concerns about the economic consequences this could bring for Denmark. If Denmark refuses to hand over the island, it could face sanctions. Greenland has always been considered the homeland of the Greenlanders, and Denmark colonized the island. There is a certain consensus that one day the island will become independent, one way or another,” Byurakn Ishkhanyan said.
According to Ishkhanyan, the fate of Greenland is of little concern to the Armenian community in Denmark.
“This topic is not discussed within the Armenian community. The community is not particularly interested in the Greenland issue,” Byurakn Ishkhanyan noted.
