Andrey Chuprygin: The Kremlin is convinced that the problems in the South Caucasus should be resolved solely in the ‘3+3’ format

The senior lecturer at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the Russian HSE University, Andrey Chuprygin, commented to Alpha News on the meeting of Armenian authorities with representatives of Ukraine.

According to the political scientist, Armenia wants to show its Western allies that it is moving towards Europe.

“Armenia, which tried to shift the blame to Russia after the failures with Karabakh and complete defeat, is obviously looking for new allies. And the most suitable ally on the anti-Russian trajectory is Zelensky and the political leadership of Ukraine. In addition, Armenia wants to show Ukraine’s Western allies and, above all, NATO and the European Union how it is moving towards Europe.

Moscow is unlikely to react to this story because Moscow has already reacted three times to the previous public demarche of Pashinyan’s administration. Now Moscow will leave Pashinyan alone for some time,” Chuprygin said.

According to the expert, the Kremlin is convinced that problems in the South Caucasus will need to be resolved solely in the ‘3+3’ format.

“I am absolutely convinced that the Kremlin believes that in any case, no matter how everything happens, the problems in the South Caucasus will need to be resolved solely in the ‘3+3’ format. Other attempts will end in nothing.

Wherever Pashinyan goes for support and no matter how much he blames Russia for not providing effective assistance to Armenia in the latest conflict, most experts and observers that I know unanimously agree that the United States will not succeed in solving these problems through the European Union and NATO, because they are far from the regional agenda,” Chuprygin concluded.
