Franz Klinzewitsch: It will be the test of the UN Security Council and it will show how much it is involved
In an interview with Alpha News, Russian politician and ex-senator Franz Klinzewitsch noted that the decision of the UN Security Council should be unequivocal, the road should be unblocked, and all the decisions should be made through the mediation of the UN.
“I believe it has been a totally right decision from the Armenian side to appeal to the UN Security Council to resolve the issue in Nagorno-Karabakh which leads to humanitarian crisis. I believe it is time for this situation to end. Today, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on both Armenian and Azerbaijani sides to sit down at the negotiating table and make an actual decision regarding this complex issue. In the end, there are children, women, the elderly and others, and they all need support and a positive solution to this issue. It seems to me that it is extremely unacceptable that representatives of foreign embassies give a certain expert assessment of the humanitarian aid that is so necessary to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. I believe, the decision of the UN Security Council should be unequivocal, the road should be unblocked, and all the decisions should be made through the mediation of the UN.”
According to the politician, it is vital to continue the process which has been once resolved quite constructively at the tripartite meeting of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is necessary to put aside political maneuvering and think about people.
“I will say honestly, as a person who is involved in free politics with Russia within the framework of the public organization, I do not understand the Azerbaijani side in this case. Making such inhumane decisions regarding the blockade and, in particular, the delivery of humanitarian aid, – I cannot call it otherwise than genocide. No matter how much they try to raise old problems, talk about righteous things or historical references, it cannot be justified. This is my personal point of view. I really hope for the decision of the UN Security Council on Nagorno-Karabakh. I think the Security Council will make a decision obliging Baku to let humanitarian aid pass through and ensure its delivery to the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. I also believe that it will be the test of the UN Security Council, and it will show how much it is involved and how much it defends national interests of countries that need support and protection. We will see it and hear it tomorrow. You will also hear a speech of the Russian Federation on this issue. I do not doubt for a second that the issues we have discussed with you will be addressed there more specifically,” the ex-senator noted.
