The project concerns a 42-kilometer rail-and-road route through Armenian territory, intended to form part of the Middle Corridor connecting Central Asia and Europe. The initiative became part of a new strategic partnership signed in February and was agreed upon following a US-brokered peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Washington believes the project will strengthen Azerbaijan’s role as a transit hub and influence energy and logistics flows between East and West.

USTDA is also holding consultations with Baku across a range of areas: from LNG and civilian nuclear energy to digital infrastructure, AI, and cybersecurity. According to Euronews, the negotiations are taking place against a backdrop of energy instability and growing European interest in alternative supply routes.
