Armenia has faced a growing trade deficit, which, according to World Bank data, could reach 5.4% of GDP in 2026, up from 5.1% the previous year.
According to the organization’s June review, exports declined by 3.3% in the period from January to April, while imports grew by 2.5%. These changes were the cause of the widening deficit.
The contraction was particularly pronounced in April, when exports fell by 25.9%, primarily due to a drop in shipments of precious and semi-precious stones. However, excluding this category, overall exports for the month posted growth of 21.7%, driven by increased exports of mining products and processed food goods.
